Children’s Curtains for the Clueless Parent
br>
from:
Choosing a curtain for your children may seem like an easy chore. Parents usually have the assumption of being armed with good taste about interior designs, of being knowledgeable of what their children’s personal style is. The thought of surprising them with the goodies they bought, parents often buy things that sometimes are not attuned with their children’s preferences.
Ending up with either buying another set of curtains or sticking to their original plans is a common dilemma. These problems can every so often cause minor rifts between parents and their children. It is advisable that parents should take their children with them when shopping. Keep in mind that it is their children who will be using the room. Children these days are well aware of their rights when it comes to their own ideas of style in fashion and interior furnishings of their rooms. Children’s awareness in terms of style and design are influenced by mainstream media programs that give emphasis on children’s room furnishing. And curtains are usually the highlight of a room as it gives a certain ambiance that the room owner prefers.
Though buying ready-made curtains are preferred by many busy parents, some would rather love their curtains custom or home made. So, in selecting fabrics of curtains there are a number of varieties to choose from. A curtain with blackout linings is great in keeping sunlight from the sleepy eyes of the little ones. Polyester and cotton blend fabrics are easy to wash, durable, and easy on the wallet. Flannel fabrics are cozy. Colors of fabrics will depend on what atmosphere parents and children want for their room. Bright but refreshing on the eyes can brighten up a dark room. Dark colors with heavy fabrics can reduce the glare of sunlight in a room full of windows and encourage children to have a peaceful slumber.
Curtain designs should match or complement comforters, carpets, bed linens, and wallpapers to avoid a clash in style. Though parents may have the upper hand when picking their choice of curtain design, their child should also have a say of what style they want for their room. This simple activity of decision-making encourages a child to think for himself and allows self-expression and confidence.
Though the curtain’s aesthetic and functional appeal may be the standard of every room, some people opt for the easy to clean Venetian blinds. Venetian blinds can easily allow or suppress sunlight from entering a room by just a turn of a rod or a push of a button. If you choose Venetian blinds for your child’s room, avoid selecting the generic colors such as beige and white, as these tend to be too boring for a children’s room that needs lightening up. There are lots of colors to choose from. Moreover, with a little creativity one can paint on these Venetian blinds with some non-toxic acrylic paint to make them more stunning.
It isn’t only the windows that are clad with curtains. You may also add curtains in your children’s bed, known as bed coronet or bed canopy, for some dramatic effect. Little girls would be delighted with these extra frills. You can either buy or let a professional install it or you can create them yourself.
Accessories are also available for your curtain and windows to add some pizzazz in the room. Such accessories are holdbacks, finials, rings, brackets (centre and/or corner), cording sets, and joiners (straight and/or elbow). Tiebacks, tassels, and trimmings can also add some style in curtains. These accessories do not only accentuate the curtains but make them lively as well.
